Happy New Year

Hello Everybody, HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's so long since I have blogged my fingers don't know what to type! I haven't crafted for a long time either but fortunately I have a little one stashed away that I haven't shown yet.....

You should by now be getting used to seeing our lovely little owls, they are so handy to use on any type of greetings card that you can leave your card without a sentiment and have it handy to give for any occasion. I think this one is quite unisex and ageless.

I cut the card base on my Quickcutz Silhouette and embosses the swirls in gold. I saved those wooden beads from a broken necklace and I think they made pretty good nuts don't you??

Well there you have it, a simple card, for a simple hello from a not so simple and slightly muddled lady :D

Christmas Card Ideas PLUS a little Candy

It's almost Christmas, did you know that? LOL I sure hope you are not stressed out by the merry season, and have everything under control. Cards written? Presents wrapped? House cleaned and decorated to the nines? Food in? No?? Oh well, you still have a few days :-)))

If you are still making the cards, here are some ideas. These are my Christmas cards this year, and yes, I too left it to the last minute. Next year I have promised myself I will start making them in July! LOL. These are not great pictures as I had to get them written and sent, just snaps on the window sill, so I apologise in advance for the picture quality:

These Owls are so cute.

I totally love these Owls, they are so cute. So when the challenge over at SFTW said Friends, I just knew I had to use this stamp on a card. Here is the card, hope you like it.

I used some Prima and Graphic 45 paper, some Prima flowes and one of the new Hero Art/ Sizzic dies, the sentiment is Norwegian and say something about friendship. This one is kind of hard to translate, but in a way it can go like this: "Friends warm eachothers hearts." The white in the owls eyes are pearls. And I colored them with my copics.

I was creating a card for someone who is poorly at the moment, and as I was making it I thought what a good idea it would be to start a new series of downloads, called "time to...". So time to..make a cuppa - time to...fall in love - time to... chill - time to ...relax - time to...celebrate - and so on. We will be giving away this new series of downloads periodically. Make sure you follow the blog so you don't miss out.

So here is my card:

Obviously the wording may not be applicable to many people, so I made this digi instead to give away (although I did include the other one in the file, just in case you know a John LOL). Click on the image to be taken to the download page on the main Charmed Cards & Crafts site:

You know, the new Owl collection is FABULOUS for masculine projects. I used one of the owls to sit on a metal clock hand. It instantly transforms the card I think. I coloured the owl with Copic markers. Remember that the collection comprises both black & white and coloured images.

The border is cut with a Martha Stewart branch punch

It`s been a while since I posted something here. I got this last digi collection- these so cute and adorable owls and fell in love. So I just had to make a christmas card with this cutie and I used this card as my DT card for STFW, the challenge is a sketch.
The best part with this collection is the extra bonus: backing paper, they are so beautiful and this delicate blue become one of my favorites and print so well.

Tutorial - Quick Paper Piecing

In this tutorial you will be learning how to create a professional looking image within a minimum amount of time and without wasting a scrap of paper.
The papers I have used here are my current addiction; BasicGrey Picaddilly 6x6*
The owls are digital downloads from Charmed Cards and Crafts designed be me, Louise Brigden.*

Paper Piecing is my fave technique and if you use a simple, large enough image it is very quick and simple to achieve fabulous results.......

Open MS Word. In the settings alter your paper size to; custom/ 15 X15 cm
Now insert your desired picture and re size if desired.
Insert 4 6x6 (15cmx15cm) papers of your choice into your printer. NOTE two of these pieces will be the background papers for two cards so I would advise you to keep two of the papers fairly neutral.
Print out.
Now take your two patterned pieces of paper and cut the elements of the image you wish to adhere to your background image. All the little bits will now be pieced together like a jigsaw onto your neutral background image.

Please Note; On completion of the two owls I decided I wanted the eyes to be white so I printed the eyes another two times onto white paper. If you have the 'know-how' it would be good to crop the eyes and duplicate them to save on paper and ink.

Now you can create your cards and use up all the little bits that are left over. Here I have made two easel cards. Making these torn crumpled flowers and leaves is a great way of using your scraps and it's cheap too!

Another Owl Card

Hello there I'm back again, I've been playing with our digi owls again (on sale shortly) to give you a taster of what we have to offer at Charmed Cards and Crafts.

I decided to have a go with something new, it's a kind of pop up card thingy ( I think it's meant to be a place setting) its one of the designs I downloaded for my Silhouette digital cutter and I think it's rather fab don't you?

Here we have a rather glam owl coloured with my Copics in green and pink. I like to use glossy accents on the eyes, it really makes them pop. The papers are from my BG Marjolaine 6x6 pad.

I love how this style of card lays flat and then just pops up and I also love to try things that are a bit different. It`s been a while since I posted something. I been on a small vacation, so I been away for some days. And days just pas away before you know it.
It been so much new products added here lately, that I thought I should share a tag I made for my nephew for his birthday earlier this month.
I used some of the Pink Paisly Halloween paper- it is really great, I just love it. I got the 6x6 pack. And for my image I used this one.

He kind of walked right into this paper. Marcus just loved his birthday tag with a 20euro bill into it.

Hello again
I just used one of the sentiments from "the Shine collection" and I made this tag with it. Tags are so fun to make, and it is fast to. When you need to make a card in a hurry, just add some nice paper to cardstock and attach the tag and you are good to go...

So,don`t worry.... just have fun with your crafting.

I so love the latest collection "let it shine" and wanted to play around with some of the other images. I am member of an private forum in Norway and we do have this challenge that is ongoing the whole year- making christmas card every month .I choosed to make 4 cards and have just missed one month so far. You have to make cards for at least 8 months to be in the draw for a prize at the end.
Well I made to cards with images from this latest collection . Maybe this give you some inspiration to make christmas card.

Eid Mubarak

Hello everyone, Louise here.

Today is a very special day for Muslims all around the world. It is the day of Eid and it marks the end of Ramadan. I will be celebrating later on today with my partner and I have made him this lantern as a little token

Last year I made him a card, but it's hard making cards for men at the best of times - themes for Eid seem even more limited! I decided to have a look through my Silhouette library to see if there was any inspiration. There were a few nice ideas but I decided to have a look at their online library...... low and behold, look what jumped out at me! Perfect! I have to say, I have been a Charmed customer for years now and my Quickcutz Silhouette has to be my favourite purchase ever!

I simply fed brown card into my Silhouette and press 'cut' popped out the flat shape and folded is into a lantern as you see here. To give it a bit of an aged yet magical look I sprayed it with Sticky Fingers 'shake-n-spray Gold ink.(not sure if Charmed still stock it but its ace! it's lasted me forever!)

Anyhow it's time to go and beautify myself for the party.

A card for my Hubby

Hello
I am finally home from vacation and had some time to play with this new collection. I really love this one. So fun and a dream to color.
My hubbys birthday is in the beginning of september and I had to use this image and sentiment on his card. Had a fun time making this. So now I just have to get him a present for his Bday.

Image and sentiment is from the collection: Let it shine. papers are some old scrap and some is from TH and I really can`t remember the company, but the collection is called: Once Upon A Time, and old collection. Flowers are punches, ticket from Pink Paisly and charms are really old stuff from my stash.
So I hope this is for some inspiration to you.

Techniques - Stick Pins

Hi gang, hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. It has brightened up here in London, and I actually managed to get a little colour by sitting in the garden. Woohoo! Long may it last!

Our wonderful DT member Maddy Hill posted this to the forum a while ago, and I would like to share it with you here on the blog:

Did you know that hidden in the depths of the massive Charmed Cards & Crafts shop are some fabby little beauties called stick/hat pins .Now if you buy them pre-done they cost a lot more than making them yourself ....all you need is this ..

Now you get 12 in a pack - but they are long so you can half them with pliers.

One end is the stick end (you need a dab of glue to secure it in place ) and the other end is a head pin end , this makes it possible to get 24 pins !

Add some beads - a dab of glue on the last bead keeps it in place, add some glitter to the stick if you wish, and some mesh, and voila! You have fabby gorgeous hat pins, and 24 of them and you have saved some pennies !

This is what it looks like finished ..

Aren't they just fabby - I am so chuffed I had such a good root through the shop !!!

Crafty Storage - Brads

Hello Folks Louise here, I hope you're all enjoying the beautiful weather, it's raining here but I actually think the rain is ace so for me that's beautiful :)

I've been giving my craft room a make over and it's all been such fun! I can't show you the photos of the room yet because it's not all finished but I would like to show you a really neat storage idea I came up with. Some of us collect stamps, some love buttons but the thing I have wayyyyy too many of is brads. I suppose it's a good one to be a hoarder of because they are small. I always kept my brads very well organised in those plastic white boxes but every time I wanted to use a brad I had to go through them all to find the one I wanted and some really fab ones were sometimes missed. I was doing some blog hopping recently and I stumbled across a really cool idea; this lady had used a cork notice board to stick all of her brads in, so the were all there on her wall in front of her as she crafted. I wondered if maybe a cork board wouldn't quite be deep enough for some of the brad stems and then....I had a brain wave! canvases are in all the shops right now and sometimes very very cheap....perfect! I already had this hanging set of three in my cupboard, it was about £4 from The Works....I got to work......

so now all of my brads (actually not ALL I ran out of space) are on show and ready to be 'picked'

All you have to do is prick the canvas with a craft knife and pop your brad in. Here you will see I have some spaces- that's because I had a crafting session with my step-son yesterday and he took a liking to them :o

The one drawback I can say about this is that they fall out easily but you could add some polystyrene to the back of your canvas to rectify this, or if you are very patient you can open up the backs of all your brads.

So there you have it, an incredibly handy storage idea that looks like a work of art for your room too! Please leave us a link if you make one, we'd love to see what you come up with.

I had a little play with the new Let it Shine downloads. I used one of my favourite images on both my cards here. I realised it would have been good if we had included a celebrate and a plain birthday sentiment in the bundle and decided to create a couple around this image. If you have purchased the Let it Shine bundle you can get the image with the sentiments as shown (including the circle behind the ladies, but of course without my friend, Tee's, name on there. It`s been so long since I last posted anything to Dotties World, so we try again to this new blog with a brand new collection.
And I really love this collection, so much fun images to play with. I haven`t had time to play much, because I am on vacation and my internet are limited.
I made this card to the SFTW challenge. The challenge is all about spots and dots. I thought that something with a positive energy would be perfect and I had the perfect sentiment and image for this.
Well, here is my card.

Little Flower

Hello friends, Louise here.
I haven't been crafting or blogging for a whole week....but the reason is a good one....I'm having a craft room makeover! Woo Hoo I'll show you some pictures soon. I made a roman blind the other day and I'm very impressed with myself :)

Right onto the card. I made this one a little while ago but I've only just got around to showing you. If you scroll down you will see the winter version of this image on my previous card. I love this image because it's perfect for paper piecing and that is my absolute fave technique, it brings the picture and the background all together so nicely, creating a rally balanced look. Here is the card front......

Do you see how the paper piecing has allowed me to match the flowers to the hat? Those flowers are the cheapest flowers ever! Just tear scraps of paper into circles, scrunch them up and add buttons! Voila!

The image AND the sentiment underneath are from the 'Let it Shine' digital collection at Charmed Cards and Crafts, yours at the click of a button!

The papers are Basicgrey but The name of the collection escapes me right now so I'll update later.

You may have noticed that most of my cards are Easel cards, that's cos they're my favourite! Their is a fab tutorial at the Charmed store here and I'm going to put on on here when I get around to it.

Winter in July

Hello Folks Louise here. As you know we've just released a new collection of digi images at Charmed Cards and Crafts and amongst that set we have added some bonus winter images. I've been dying to have a go with this one and with the help of a fab pot of Polar White flower soft kindly given to me by our Karen (wuv woo) I managed to come up with this......

I used a Fancy Pants Happy Holidays 8 x 8 paper pad for this project, I just love these papers, theyre so rich.

The Image I've used is from the 'Let it Shine' digital collection also from Charmed

The great thing about being a card maker is that when you design images you have an end product in mind, I knew from the beginning that this little lovely would have snow added to her nose.
The snow here is Flower Soft Polar White.

Hello everybody, how are you enjoying the new Blog? More importantly how are you enjoying our newest set of downloads? I've been have ing a play this morning, I shouldn't say this because I drew all of the images but.......I really love em!

Here's what I made today....

The Papers are from a Basicgrey 6x6 pad (sweet threads) I always get these when Karen puts new ones on the shelves at Charmed Cards and Crafts because they are just perfect for card making - all the papers in a pad compliment eachother perfectly which is so great for paper peicing and layering.

this is an easel card and the image is from our new digi collection - let it shine.

Must dash now cos my parents are waiting to take me out, bless em. Have a great day xxx

Here is a card I made with one of the card fronts. I just printed it out, stuck it onto white Bazzill card and embellished with fine glitter and some lace. So simple!

Welcome friends old and new,
We've had a makeover! New name, new look new address and new focus! No longer are we Dottie's World and no longer do we focus only on the Charmed Digital Downloads we are now totally and utterly devoted to Charmed Cards and Crafts and everything that's going on within! Therefore we will still be having fun with our digi downloads but everything else from Charmed too....and that's rather a lot!

There is going to be a lot going on here over the next few weeks so please add us to your favourites and keep coming back for daily updates. Pssssst don't tell anybody but I hear there is a brand new, utterly fabulous set of digi downloads on its way! Shhhhhhhh!
